Radioactive by BS4711 Radioactive by BS4711
Made up story about this planet:

100 years ago lived a thriving and intelligent species on this planet that were similar to humans and more advanced then humans. But this species were ill-tempered and they always had fights with each-other. One day a dispute between two nations over several islands led to outbreaks of fighting and eventually war. This war did not last long, however, because this species had nuclear weapons which they ended up using on each-other. Soon the entire world got involved by taking sides with either or the two nations and they ended up destroying their entire species and their planet. Now this war-torn, nuclear holocaust planet sits in space completely uninhabitable and a grim reminder about how nuclear energy and war can lead to the end as we know it.

Ok so about the picture:

1. I've been working on this for a few days and think it came out great.
2. I did not want to make the colors as lively as my last space scene and wanted to use some darker colors to put in a mood of it being dark and depressing.
3. The planet came out good but the only thing I don't like is when you zoom in closer the stars are still good looking but I think the planet starts looking a little pixely. But that's just me.
4. As always, everything used in this was made by me; the stars, space dust, etc.
5. And last but not least, i'm sorry if the above story isn't that good; i've never been the one for making good stories and such.

Hope you enjoy.

I don't think the war would've left the planet completely uninhabitable, It would be like that only for a short time. Maybe about 25 or 50 years after the war.

I threw together that story in 2 minutes while waiting for the art to finish publishing so I don't really care if it's not accurate.

May I use this work in a school project? It will be shown with the quote "A planet of radioactivity, unhospitable.", referencing the book "The End of Eternity" by Isaac Asimov.

The green-ness makes me lol, but it also makes it a very nice piece, good job. Maybe next time try putting some blackened craters or something as well, it was a nuclear war right? ;)

The craters are a good idea; I never though about that.

And thanks for the fav!

Very interesting picture, the planet's texture turned out nice. The only thing that caught me was... hilariously enough... in the description. What's wrong with nuclear energy?

Anywooh, well done. It looks good! :D

haha, my apologies. I can be very... nitpicky. Disregard my comment. Congratulations on a very well done piece of art! (:

Nice colors, but why evrybody think nuclear and radiation related things are green?

Thanks.

And I used green for this because if I made the planet with brown or gray colors then it could be mistaken for some rock planet. I think the different green colors give it a feel for what I was going for.

Nice pic! ;)
But there's one thing I didn't get. When you mentioned nuclear energy (in the end), were you talking about the weapons or just everything about nuclear energy?

Thanks.

And I guess I was going for everything about nuclear energy because it usually always ends in destruction when used.

I understand your point but you really can't generalize that. Or else we would be having this conversation, since it's been over 50-60 years that nuclear energy has been in use. Of course nuclear energy has its issues, but if people know what they're doing in a responsible and competent way, there's nothing to be afraid of. That applies to everything in this life, like flying an aircraft. There are regulations.
But of course we are humans, and humans make mistakes. Maybe it's because we assume that everything is gonna be just fine and ignore "minor" hazards at our own responsability, or maybe we are just not aware of the all the possible outcomes a technology bears with. And that's why Chernobyl (and more recently Fukushima) happened.
You really can't blame the technology. It's their users that are responsible for using nuclear energy in various ways. I surely do condemn nuclear weapons, they shouldn't have been created in the first place. But i support for the peaceful uses of nuclear energy. Why? Because I've read about it in various books and articles, and in fact, it's really a simple concept to understand. People should read more about it instead of making assumptions that might be wrong (or right).
I'm not judging or criticising you, everyone has a diferent opinion about something. And I respect that. But if there's one thing you can't do is generalizing, because it's not fair xD (specially for me, since I've done a wonderful project about nuclear energy for college, got myself a magnificent grade, and in the week after that, Fukushima happened. So yeah, it really pissed me off, but I still believe in nuclear energy). Sorry about the long text..

To be completely honest I did not read most of that. I respect you for writing all that but that little story of mine; well I put together in 2 minutes. It's just a little made up story for the space scene to give it a theme. Just because something might be off fact-wise in a made up story won't affect anybody here. So yeah. :unimpressed:
